SUNY New Paltz student, , featured in "Clay-to-Table" event

2013 Dec 17

, a resident of , , is one of eighteen SUNY New Paltz Ceramics students who came together on Thursday evening, Dec. 12 to discuss and display their work at A Tavola, a rustic Tuscan-style restaurant in downtown New Paltz in an event titled "Clay-to-Table." Professor Bryan Czibesz of the SUNY New Paltz Ceramics department hosted the event.

The first-of-its-kind project by the Ceramics department had student teams display their designs, all of which were commissioned by and designed specifically for A Tavola, throughout the restaurant's dining room.

Student teams met with the owners of A Tavola to discuss their needs and desires for service and tableware for the restaurant. Design aesthetic was taken into consideration as the students developed prototypes for cups and saucers, dinner and dessert dishes, serving platters, and barware. Students also considered how the individual pieces were going to be used, how durable they needed to be, and how they would be used in a busy restaurant.

Professor Czibesz explained that the students were challenged to "step outside of the studio and the campus in general and work within the context in which we live" as a model of engagement with the community.
