SUNY New Paltz student Bianca Fields has been named a Peer Academic Success Coach

2017 Mar 30

Bianca Fields of Dix Hills, N.Y. has been chosen as a peer coach in a new SUNY New Paltz resource, the Peer Academic Success Coaching (PASC) program.

16 students were chosen from a pool of 60 candidates, and went through a two-day training workshop in January, where they learned a variety of techniques they could use to help fellow students learn new behaviors and strategies for academic success.

Peer coaching is designed to support students with diverse learning styles, through strength-based techniques that emphasize listening and positive reinforcement.

The Center for Student Success debuts the program as a tool that goes above traditional peer tutoring and mentoring sessions. The PASC focuses more on learning broadly applicable skills, such as time management, setting goals, and creating action plans for meeting those goals, rather than just focusing on content area instruction.

Students can learn more about the PASC and register for a meeting with a peer coach by visiting the Center for Student Success online.
