Kylie Regan Participated in Saturdays of Service

2017 Nov 8

Kylie Regan of Bronxville, N.Y. has volunteered with the Saturdays of Service program at SUNY New Paltz for the fall 2017 semester.

The Saturdays of Service program strives to give students the opportunity to volunteer in the Hudson Valley community over the course of one semester. Students take part in numerous volunteer, social, and educational activities to better the community and themselves.

The fall 2017 theme was "Homelessness, Hunger, and Mental Health: A Chiz's Heart Street Intensive." Nineteen students volunteered at Chiz's Heart Street, a homeless shelter for people diagnosed with mental illnesses (mostly schizophrenia) for three Saturdays. They prepared and served meals, assisted with food pantry distributions, and wrapper donated gifts ahead of the holiday season. Together they totaled 589 hours of service which makes an economic impact of over $13,588.
