Emily Correia of East Setauket, N.Y. is a member of Sigma Gamma Epsilon, Theta Beta Chapter at SUNY New Paltz.

Sigma Gamma Epsilon is the National Honor Society of the Earth Sciences. The Theta Beta Chapter is SUNY New Paltz's chapter established in 2012 by the Geology Department.

Members have opportunities to access special presentations and panels at local, regional, and national conferences, scholarship opportunities, as well as preference for selection for research with SUNY New Paltz's Geology faculty. The honor society's objectives are the scholastic, scientific, and professional advancement of its members along with community service and outreach with the local community to promote and teach the Earth Sciences.

In order to join SGE, students:

  • Must be declared major or minor in any branch of the Earth Sciences
  • Completed 10 semester hours in Earth Science courses,
  • Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA in all Earth Science courses
  • Maintain a minimum 2.67 GPA in all college courses.
